I'm John, I'm 18 years old, went to Woodside High, and currently go to Foothill College. My dad has an old Canon A1 (film!) and I've used it before and it may have been the reason i got into photography. Now he has a Canon 10D, he got it when it first came out so it's ollllld now, and i have a Canon EOS Rebel XTI and my prized Canon 5D MKII (Full Frame WOO!). I've been into photography for a while now. I'm kind of a jack of all trades, I'm knowledgeable in many areas such as, Computers (fixing them, using them, helping others with them, etc.), Photography, Photoshop, Illustrator, Premier, InDesign, Flash, all sorts of things! I'm hoping someday to become a better photographer (hoping to go Pro too (Starting my own business! :D)). I love meeting fellow photography enthusiasts, pro or amateur. Any comments or suggestions with my photography? Just let me know! I'm always looking for advice to get better.

Equipment:
At Home: Canon 5D MK II, Canon EF 24-70 f/2.8L, Canon EOS Rebel XTI, Canon EFS 18-55mm f/3.5, Canon EF 75-300mm f/4, Canon 10D, Canon EF 28-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM, Canon EF 75-300mm f/4-5.6 IS USM, Canon Speedlite 580EX, Canon Speedlite 430EX, Pocket Wizard MiniTT1 and FlexTT5.
Can borrow from a friend: Canon 40D, Canon 50D, Canon EF-S 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6 IS, Canon EF 85mm f/1.8 USM, Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II, Canon EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM, Sigma 8mm F3.5 EX DG Circular Fisheye, Sigma APO 150-500mm F5-6.3 DG OS HSM, Tamron AF18-200mm F/3.5-6.3 XR Di-II LD Aspherical (IF) Macro, x3 The AlienBees B800 Flash Units w/ beauty dishes

No not KITT from Knight Rider!

Anyway, to the point.
I'm considering 88x7's recommendation on buying the 5D MKII body and getting EF 24-70mm f/2.8L USM instead of the 5D MKII kit with the EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM. The kit goes for around $3800 and the 5D MKII with body only and the EF 24-70mm f/2.8L USM separate is around $3900, so it sounds like a good deal. Another lens I just discovered is the EF 28-300mm f/3.5-5.6L IS USM which goes for around $2300 which makes it's combine price with the 5D MKII to $5000. Hard decisions... I like versatile lenses like the EF 28-300mm f/3.5-5.6L IS USM, but I like fast lenses too like the EF 24-70mm f/2.8L USM. For the sake of money though I'll probably go for the faster EF 24-70mm f/2.8L USM, which is still quite versatile with a focal range of 24-70mm, and for a starting lens on a new Full-frame camera I think it's best.

thanks for the fave! oh, and as for the 5dmk2, you might wanna look at the 24-70 f2.8L IS USM... the 2.8 might be handier than the f4 on the 24-105!

hm that's tempting... That f/2.8 is nice, it's like the 70-200mm f/2.8L IS USM I use at school. Although I think your talking about this [link] lens, which doesn't have IS. Also the 5D MKII kit is $3500 and if i buy the body separate and go for the lens you recommend I would be paying around $4050. Then again I have a 28-135 f/3.5-5.6 IS USM lens.. it isn't an L series but it compares to the 24-105 f/4L so maybe the 24-70 f/2.8L is a good choice... lol you got me thinking...
What would you think if someone on Amazon was selling a USED 5D MKII W/ kit lens, for $1800? That's almost half off the normal price! I was just thinking go for that AND get the 24-70f/2.8L IS USM

Thanks for the advice!

yeah youre right, it doesnt have IS, woops!

1800 is very cheap for the mark II... there might be something wrong with it, i dunno, if not, its a deal! id love one if those cameras.

in the end, either lens is good, you just need to decide if you want the better aperture i suppose! good luck getting it anyway! :D

well that 1800 deal is gone now. lol i'll watch his reviews and see whoever got it complains or not. anyway i found this great review on the 5DMKII on amazon,[link]
He talks about the lens you recommend and he says "this lens is a Vignetting monster when shot wide open on a 5D Mark II" lol.. me i don't mind vignetting too much. However later he states "With the Vignetting control built into Digital Photo Professional (DPP) and the on-board 5D Mark II auto control it's perfect and Vignetting is not a problem" In all he makes it out to be a very good lens. One piece of advice i've seen on Amazons reviews too is to ONLY shoot with L-series lenses with the 5D MKII, that it puts your lenses to the test and that non-L-series lenses will knock the quality of your images down.
